Commander does the reverse: it sits in your DAW doing the technical work — and when you're stuck, offering ideas you can actually edit — on the gear and samples you already have. What comes out is a session you made.

Questions

Does it write the music for me?
Most of what it does is technical: routing, gain staging, automation, device setup, sample hunting, the menu work. But yes — ask it and it writes MIDI. When you're stuck it'll put a chord progression on a track, sketch a bassline, or pull candidates from your own arsenal and Splice so you have something to react to. That's what a co-producer does when you hit a wall at 2am.

The difference is what you get: a clip in your session, played by your instruments, that you audition, edit, or delete. Suggestions to react to — not a finished track handed to you with your name on it. The taste and the final call stay yours, because that's the part worth doing.
How is this different from Suno or other AI song generators?
Those hand you a finished audio file made by a model trained on a catalogue you can't inspect. Commander never renders audio — it drives your DAW, playing your instruments, plugins and samples. You finish with an editable session, not a stereo bounce. See the comparison above.
Which DAWs are supported?
Ableton Live 12 today (Suite recommended). Logic Pro, FL Studio, Bitwig & Studio One are on the roadmap. Commander installs a Remote Script into your User Library — it never modifies the DAW's app bundle and survives updates.
Is this finished?
It's in beta, and we'd rather say so. The core — session control, MIDI, devices, automation, mix listening, Splice — works today on Ableton Live 12; more DAWs, more devices and rough edges are actively being worked on. Buying in early means a direct line to the developer, and your bug reports genuinely steer what ships next.
Why is it cheaper right now?
Commander lists at $100. A limited number of licenses go out at $59 during the beta — early buyers are taking on rough edges and shaping what gets built, so they pay less. Once that run is gone the price is $100. What you paid is what you keep; nobody gets asked for the difference later.
How does the Splice integration work?
Splice is connected over MCP, so you can ask for a sound in plain language and Commander searches your Splice library and pulls the results into your session — no browser tab, no scrolling packs. It uses your own Splice account; Commander doesn't resell or bundle samples.
Can I use Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Kimi or DeepSeek in Ableton?
Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Grok, Kimi, DeepSeek — anything reachable over the OpenAI-compatible API, plus Anthropic natively. Commander is “bring your own key”: you pay the provider directly for the tokens you use, with no markup from us, and most sessions cost cents. You can also run a model locally (Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp, vLLM) and pay nothing per token. See models.
Is this like Claude Code or Codex, but for Ableton?
Close in spirit. Claude Code and Codex are coding agents — a model with tools, working inside your project. Commander is the same shape pointed at music production: a model with tools, working inside your Live set. The differences are that it's a native macOS app rather than a terminal, the tools drive the DAW itself — tracks, devices, MIDI, automation, mix listening — instead of a filesystem, and you bring your own key for whichever model you prefer, Claude and GPT included.
Is there an MCP server for Ableton?
Commander isn't one, and deliberately so. It talks to Live through a Remote Script installed in your User Library, which is what gives it dependable access to tracks, devices and automation without you running a server or wiring up a client. It does use MCP where MCP is the right tool — Splice search is an MCP connection. If what you want is a raw server to plug into your own setup, that's a different kind of project; this is the finished app.
Where does my data go?
Your prompts and session data are sent to the model provider you choose, under that provider's privacy policy — never through our servers. Master-bus audio capture stays on your machine. Run a local model and nothing leaves your machine at all, which is the setup to use for unreleased or NDA'd work. See our privacy policy for details.
